CHAPTER IV. BUILDINGS AND CONSTRUCTIONCHAPTER IV. BUILDINGS AND CONSTRUCTION\ARTICLE 11. SEDGWICK COUNTY CODE ENFORCEMENT

The Mayor, subject to the consent and approval of the governing body, is authorized to enter into an Interlocal Agreement for Code Inspection and Enforcement on behalf of the City with Sedgwick County, Kansas.

There is hereby adopted and incorporated by reference Sedgwick County Code Chapter 6 pertaining to Buildings and Building Regulations except for the provisions thereof relating to licensing of contractors. Such code is made a part of the Ordinances and Code of the City as if the same had been set out in full herein.

There is hereby adopted and incorporated by reference Sedgwick County Code Chapter 8 pertaining to Code Enforcement. Such code is made a part of the Ordinances and Code of the City as if the same had been set out in full herein.

The Mayor may appoint the County Building Inspector to perform specified inspections in accordance with the provisions of this article.

The County Building Inspector shall inspect such property and structures which are designated by the Mayor, such inspections to be pursuant to the provisions of this Article.

The County Building Inspector shall have the following powers:

(a)   To enter any building or structure or premises at any reasonable hour, whether complete or in the process of erection, to perform the duties contained in this article;

(b)   May cause any work done in violation of the article to be discontinued until he or she shall have satisfactory evidence that the work will be done in accordance with the building regulations of the city, subject to the right of any builder or owner to appeal as provided in the applicable regulations.

(c)   Such additional and further powers as are set out in the provisions of the Sedgwick County Code which has been adopted by the City.

The County Building Inspector, or his or her agent, upon proper identification, shall have authority to enter any building, structure or premises at any reasonable hour to perform his or her duties as set out in this article.

The provisions of the Sedgwick County Code hereby adopted shall be applicable to and pertain to only those inspections performed by the County Building Inspector and designated by the Mayor.

No fewer than three (3) copies of Chapter 6 and Chapter 8 of the Sedgwick County Code shall be marked or stamped “Official Copy as Incorporated by the Code of the City of Kechi” and shall be filed with the City Clerk to be open to inspection and available to the public at all reasonable hours of business.
